Reliable event technology is a systems problem: acoustics, electrical components, mechanical construction, cabling, transport and live operation all have to work together under real conditions.
I designed and built a modular, passive PA system for parties, smaller events and outdoor use, and kept extending it between 2016 and 2026. The rig is a 2-way stereo system with a mono subwoofer section: four HK Audio PR:115 X tops (15“, 300 W RMS, 8 Ω) paired with four self-built LBH 118 subwoofers, which I constructed from scratch in 18 mm multiplex wood around an existing driver design (18-500/8-A, 500 W RMS, 8 Ω) that I adapted and stabilized so the boxes can be flexibly combined into different setups. Behringer NX3000 and NX6000 amplifiers drive the tops and subs respectively, with a t.racks DS 2/4 loudspeaker-management system handling an active 2-way crossover at roughly 98 Hz, gain structure, filtering, delay and limiter protection — for a total handling capacity of about 3.2 kW RMS.
I personally designed and built the enclosures, soldered and wired all electrical connections, configured the signal processing and amplification, and operate the system live on-site, typically alongside a coordinated lighting setup. The design priorities throughout were high output, modular setup, low amplifier weight and easy transport.
